Its funny that I came across this video today while waiting on a playblast at work. I've been doing some crazy hours lately and kind of getting down about how much time is spent putting all your hours, hard work and life into a few seconds of screen time. Then something awesome like this video comes along and reminds us why we do what we do. We love it and although it can sometimes be really hard to what you do in the big picture even though it feels like you're working on such a small part of that big picture, when you step back and look at all the things made possible by you and your coworkers you gain this sense of satisfaction and remember you're doing what you love. I'm very lucky to be doing what I love and have been very fortunate to meet and work with amazing people.So with all that said, if you're having a rough day and need to remember why it is you do what you do. Why you put up with the hours and why you put every bit of you into every shot. Just remember the feeling you get at the end of this video.

Awesome find! I love Alice and wonderland. It has some of the most entertaining dialog particularly in this scene below. It's especially awesome that someone has placed the reference/audio recording session side by side with the animation. It really goes to show how important reference footage is and how it can be pushed further.

Ok so I'm sure most of you have seen PIXAR's UP by now. And if you haven't you should! This is a clip from the movie showing the married life of Carl and Ellie. Let me tell you, PIXAR NAILED this. Its a short film embedded into a movie. And frankly if you're not emotionally moved by this then you're not human :P Seriously though this is some fantastic story telling without dialog. Every aspect of this sequence was meticulously planned and every bit from the lighting and texturing, to the animation and music all complement each other to help push the story. Its a great example of clean story telling. By clean story telling I mean, nothing extra has been added that wouldn't help the story and every stage of development plays off each other for a reason.

There's an animatic of this floating around the internet but I seem to have lost it. If anyone finds it please send it my way!

A friend at work shared this with everyone. I knew Ed Catmull made the first ever 3D film with a model hand and a lot of brains, but I didn't know that all these early tests of faces existed at all! Must have been amazing to see 3D go from what it was then to what it is now.

So much CG work goes un-noticed. Which if you're part of the VFX industry then that means you're doing your job! Rise of the Apes had some of the best integrated stuff I've seen in a long time. To be honest, I didn't even realize till the end of the movie that the Orangutan(not very prominent in the trailer) was CG.

Mind blown!

This is exactly what I needed :) I love frame by framing movies but man does it suck on a DVD player or a crappy player. I'd always end up ripping the movie so I can frame by frame in quicklime, but that takes forever! This even works on my iPad! Thankfully the site isn't flash based :)

So I was perusing the interwebs a little while at work today and came across This nifty life drawing 30 second animal thingy while over at Bill Robinsons site. Basically you select what you want to draw, how long you want to draw it and if you want the skeleton included! Badass! Careful though, it does have both nude male and female models. Not exactly work friendly.

So I'm sitting here at Pearson airport in Toronto and came waaaaaay too early for my flight. I've got about two and a half hours left until I hit the tarmac. So I figured what a great opportunity to use some free airport wifi and post to my site!

So here is a splash page made entirely on my iPad for my next assignment.

The idea is that there is an old man on his way to visit an old time friend. While waiting at the bus stop he doesn't realize that Death is standing right next to him. Hilarity to ensue!

I was so moved by this entire thing. I was at work suppressing tears after seeing this. There's a lot poeple could take away from this story. How short and precious life is, how important love is be it from a girlfriend, family member or in this case husband and wife. How even though your life is going great, it could end at any moment. The affection shared by Danny and Annie, even though it was portrayed in a cartoon, was real. You could tell in their voices how much one cared for the other and how happy a life they've had together. This story between husband and life has knocked me on my ass and taught me the importance of happiness and to never stop enjoying life.

I'm extremely excited to start and feel very lucky to be in the state of my life where I can attend school and work at the same time. Director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand) is planning a live-action version of Snow White in 3-D. Ratner isn’t involved with Disney and he wants to make sure everybody knows it’s going to be a lot better than that crusty fuddy-duddy film that Walt made:

“This is not your grandfather’s Snow White. Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney’s film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we’re going to do.”
